The Defeat of Death

Updated: Apr 18, 2019

In a world decimated by death, it is mind boggling that more people are not excited about Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death. This article is for the unbeliever and everyone who believes in Jesus, whether your faith is shaky or firm, for the affirmation that it supports is far more encouraging than any false belief of death…it is the reassuring conviction that Jesus Christ confronted death and emerged victorious. It is the gift of eternal life because He lives.

It is this gift of eternal life that the Christian should focus on when the attention and focus will be placed on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is not to diminish this period of celebration, but to bring attention to the gift given to us by Christ’s defeat of death.

In (Hebrews 2: 14-15), the apostle Paul advised us that Christ through his death has destroyed him who holds the power of death and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. God wants to reassure you that because his son defeated death that you are saved, that your life has been ransomed by God in the crucifixion and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ and that God will finish the good work He began in you.

The very idea of the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ is rooted in his promise to offer man a more permanent and abundant life (John 10:10 KJV). By confronting death and being victorious, Jesus Christ fulfilled the promise of Scripture which has been properly labelled throughout Christendom “the Christian Hope.” It is this “hope” that gives us the courage to live faithfully each day knowing that Christ has defeated death; that we no longer must fear death or surrender our faith from a daily onslaught of pagan teachings and beliefs or the ridicule of friends and family members who find our beliefs primitive in this modern age. (1 Cor 15: 20-23).
